Overall, the population of Japan gradually increased between 1950 and 2010. Starting from 2015, the population started to decline and it is expected to keep falling until 2055. In addition, the proportion of people older than 65 in the total population kept increasing trend since 1950 and projected to rise until 2035. In detail, the population of Japan was 84, 1 million in 1950 and experienced a remarkable increase until 1995 to 125, 5 million. Between 1995 and 2015, the number fluctuated around 126 million. The increasing trend was changed in 2005 at the peak 127, 8 million and the population started to decline. In 2035 and 2055, the population is projected to be 110 million and 89, 9 million respectively. Moreover, the number of people in Japan aged more than 65 was 4, 1 million in 1950. The number rocketed to 25, 7 in 2005. In the same period, the proportion of them in the total population became 20 % from 4. 9%.
