In 1995, the largest percentage, 15% of foreign visitors came from Russia whereas there were five percentage points fewer visitors from France and the smallest group were from Japan at 5%. This changed significantly in 2000 when there were more French visitors (12%) than Russians. Then in 2005 there was a huge increase in the number of Japanese tourists who formed the largest group at 14 %. However, the percentage of Russian and French visitors was the same at 12 %.
Overall, French and Japanese visitors to Corfu increased between 1995 and 2005, although the increase in the French was marginal. Russians on the other hand reduced significantly. It is interesting to note that Japanese tourists who were the minority in 1995 became the majority in 2005 over a period of 10 years.
