The bar chart indicates the total number of to and fro journeys by school students who aged 5- 12, in a nation using various types of transportation (Car passenger, walking, cycling, walking and bus, and bus) in the years 1990 and 2010. Overall, in the year 1990, the greatest number of school goers used walking as the mode of commute while the least used car, By contrast, a maximum number of pupils used car in the year 2010 while cycling being the least utilized. Firstly, in the year 1990, only about 4 million students have traveled in Cars as passengers while just above 12 million of them have walked to their schools and homes. In addition to the above, they have also used other modes of transport such as Bus, Bicycle and, Walk + Bus in the ranges of 7, 6. 1, and 5. 9 million respectively. Secondly, it is noticeable that the trend is slightly opposite in the year 2010, in which about 11 million children had used Car to get to their schools while only as few as 2 million used Bicycles. Walking stood as the second most preferred way of commute with 6 million students followed by Bus travelers at 5 million and Walking + Bus was just about 3 million.
