The bar chart illustrates the initial estimate of cost and the actual spending for the Summer Olympic over a period between 1976 and 2012. Overall, the proportion of actual spending for the Summer Olympics was higher than that of the initial estimate. Moreover, the greatest discrepancy between estimate and actual costs occured in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. As can be seen in the chart, the initial estimate in Montreal 1976 started at a relatively low position of only 5 billions.
