Nevertheless, illiteracy among women was higher than men in all regions.
To begin with, the lowest rates were in Developed countries, at 1%. The Caribbean had more uneducated residents among females and males, nearly 11%. On the contrary, East Asia/Oceania had only 9% by women and almost double by men, at 20%. The other three regions had the highest number of illiterate citizens. The percentage of men constituted about 30% in all areas, whereas the quantity among females rose gradually. In Africa and Arab land there were around and just over a half of unlettered women respectively.
