A glance at the above-mentioned line graph apparently reveals how many proportions of people were employed in three sectors of the UK economy during the first decade of the 21st century. In general, what stands out from the graph is that there was a considerable rise in the employment rates of both Public sector and Self-employed, whilst the Private sector witnessed a substantial decline in employment rate over the period under view. An interesting point which should be noted here is that the Private sector accounted for the highest employment rate in 2000, but in 2010 the Public sector employed more people than the others. Having a close look at the figure, with regard to the self-employed, its employment started at just below 20 percent in 2000, this was followed by a slight increase to 20 percent in 2002. After experiencing a fluctuation over the following 3 years, the self-employed employment rate recovered to its figure of 20 percent. Then the figure went up significantly, finishing at 30 percent to be precise in 2010. If we look at the Public sector, the trend was similar. Having remained unchanged at somewhere in the vicinity of 40 percent in the first three years of the period, the employment rate then grew remarkably to just below 50 percent in 2005. Next, the figure fluctuated slightly before ending at more than 50 percent in 2010. Conversely, the employment rate of the Private sector was the complete reverse. Standing at around 48 percent in 2000. After that, there was a considerable decrease to just over 40 percent. Despite stabilizing the following year, it then gradually fall for the rest of the period in question to hit a trough of 20 percent in 2010. That means the Private sector had the lowest employment rate of the three sectors.
