The pie chart and the table illustrate the energy consumption proportions by different applications and electricity units(kWh) used classified by the number of members in the residence respectively in Australia.
Overall, heating and cooling, and water heating contribute more than a half of the entire energy usage of a typical house. On average, more than 5000 units were used at a minimum by any household and it is observed that usage increased when the number of occupants in the house increases.
Heating and cooling is the largest portion of the energy consumed in a house with a 38% while water heating came second with a one quarter from the total. However, fridges and freezers, and lighting were contributed with the same amount of 7% each, while cooking and stand by power recorded 4% and 3% respectively. All other applications like clothes and dish washers, entertainment and small appliances covered about 16%.
A strong positive correlation was showed in the energy units consumed respective to the number of people in the house. Typically, 5000 to 6500 units were consumed per year where only a single occupant was precent while 6000 to 8500 units were used when two people lived in the house. If three people were in the house, it was recorded to use about 7500 to 10000 units per year. However, as expected with this trend, 12000 to 16000 units were used on average if more than five people were living in the house.
