The graph presents the evolution of the Icelandic population’s density based on 5 different age groups, in percentages. The study takes place between 1990 and 2020
Overall, the 25-54 group presents clear, sustainable growth, keeping an upward trajectory until the end of the study. Two groups, respectively 0-14 and 15-24, follow a downward trend, seeing no rise throughout the three decades. People 65 and over and 55-64, have complex trajectories that are not predictable at all, rising and falling randomly.
It is explicitly observed that the category including people aged between 25 and 54 managed to move upward without any fall, going from around 32% in 1990 to just a little under 50% in 2020, being the only group which climbed constantly, compared to the rest, which mainly followed downward trajectories. It is interesting to note that the 65 and over group kept the almost exact same position in 1990 and 2000, along with the 55-64 group who did not see any change in 2000 and 2010.
It is worth noticing that all groups except for 65 and over and 25-54 had reached their peak at the beginning of the study and then started decreasing. The lowest ranking category is 15-24, with around 8% in 2020. The 0-14 and 15-24 trajectories are very similar, both falling at the same rate throughout the years.
