The pie charts depict the average proportion of sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars in typical meals consumed by Americans, all of which can be detrimental if taken in excess.
Overall, it is readily apparent that most fat and sodium were consumed at dinner, while the intake of sugar was higher during snack time. Also, breakfast had the lower percentages for all three nutrients.
Taking a closer look, dinner and lunch had roughly similar, large proportions for both sodium(43% for dinner and 29% for lunch) and saturated fat(37% for dinner and 26% for lunch). However, the amount of sugar in average meals for dinner and lunch was much lower at 23% and 19%, respectively.
Turning to breakfast and snacks, they were both made up of 14% sodium. Furthermore, the snacks accounted for 21% of saturated fats, and breakfast was slightly lower for 16%. There was a high disparity in sugar levels, with 42% of snacks being sugary, whereas only 16% of breakfast being made up of sugar.
