The chart compares the proportions of people who were born in the UK, Asia and other areas, living in Australia, and shows the combined figure for people not born in Australia resident in Australia from 1976 to 2011. Overall, the combined figure increase slightly during the research period. Additionally, while the rate of people originally from UK fell, the figures for Asia and other regions grew. In 1976, the percentage of people born in UK living in Australia was highest, at around 14%, while the figure for other regions was lower, at 11%. At the same time, only 3% of Australia population was born in Asia, which was the lowest rate amongst the other groups. In 2011, the percentage of people born in UK living in Australia experienced a remarkable decline of 9% to 5%, becoming the lowest rate in the chart. Conversely, 2011 saw growths of 2% and 12% to 13% and 15% in the rate of Australian residents from Asia and other regions respectively. In term of total number of people from the UK, Asia and other regions, they accounted for around 23% of the Australia population in 1976, and the figure increased by 2% to 25% in 2011.
