is work life balance good? xgN2o
Work and life are always joined at the hip. Our earnings ensure that the lights stay on, there’s food on the table and the rainy-day pot is full. In today's hectic society, many people find it is hard to achieve a work-life balance. This essay below will investigate the reason why finding a work-life balance is difficult and draw some potential solutions to achieve a healthier work-life balance. There are many reasons leading to difficulty in finding a work-life balance but mainly belongs to two categories, which are subjective reasons and objective reasons. Firstly, the objective reason for this issue is today’s unpredictable and fast-paced business world. As we grow increasingly more connected through technology and social media, it is becoming more and more difficult to separate work from our personal lives. It is commonplace to check emails at all hours, take business calls at the dinner table and work on our laptops on weekends. It proves that the spread of technology has increased boundary blurring and the pace of daily life. Therefore it causes even more difficult for people to balance work and personal life. Secondly, the subjective reason mentioned is workload and perceived control. The closest example is employees in auditing. For the auditors in busy seasons, the amount and pace of work is a major contributing factor causing it almost impossible for them to have a work-life balance. Workload and work pace are viewed as very high, the amount of work they are required to complete, and the time within which they are required to complete it, often felt unmanageable, requiring them to stay well into the night or work on weekends in order to meet tight deadlines. They usually have to perform work in the evenings and on weekends, as well as being required to remain in close contact with colleagues and clients when not in the office, contributing to the perception of work obligations invading the non-work sphere. It is easy to realize that they spend significant amounts of time dwelling on their work obligations when not actually working.
