People learning and speaking a language among countries

People learning and speaking a language among countries WEaAb
The table collects data of the number of learners of the 6 most popular languages around the globe, as well as the amount of native speakers and countries in which this language is used. English has the highest values in the first and second categories and besides this, it almost doubles the second most popular language, French, in the number of countries where people speak the language, this being 101 and 51, respectively. The latter would be followed by Chinese (33), Spanish (31), Italian (29) and finally, Japanese (25). What is most striking is the proportion of people with Chinese as their mother tongue, as it doubles that value for English, and it is almost ten times that for French. On its part, Japanese is the least spoken language in both number of people and countries among the 6. However, it overtakes French when looking at the number of native speakers, with 123 and 118 million people each. Spanish occupies the second position in this category, with 389 million, despite occupying the fourth place in the other two. Overall, English is by far the most spoken language in the world, whereas more people hold Chinese as their native language.
