The following diagram shows the manufacturing process of a pencil, starting from collecting raw materials to the finished product. There’s 4 main machinery involved steps such as forming press, drying, oven and shaping machine. There’s also 2 processes which are combined into one; such that when the lead is made, wood can be grooves cut to pencil cases. The process starts by combining ground graphite, clay and water to form graphite dough which is put into the forming press machine. While the lead is being processed, wood is being collected to be cut to form pencil cases. After the lead has been dried and baked in the oven at 800C, it’s assembled together with the pencil cases forming a ‘sandwich’. Lastly, it’s sent into the shaping machine to finalise the finished product.
