The line graphs show the actual and possible changes in the number of birth and death in New Zealand from1901 to 2101. One can observe an upward trend in both birth and death rates when comparing the beginning and ending points. In 1901 death rates were about 9000 and it rose steadily to approximately 28000 in 2001. This increase is expected to continue in a more dramatic pace to under 60000 until 2061 and it will remain relatively stable before dropping to 56000 in 2101. The birth rates followed a more fluctuant pattern. It started at 20000 in 1901 and reached a peak of 65000 in 1961. Then it went down to just below 50000 by the year 1981. There was a considerable increase by roughly 10000 in birth rates in 1991. It started decreasing gradually after that and it is projected to continue until 2101 when the figure will be about 42000.
