I’d like to speak about a major national one called Nowruz. It is celebrated in Iran and many countries and has been observed for over 2500 years. It marks the first day of spring and shows the beginning of the year in Iranian calendar. Typically, on the first day, family members gather around ‘Haft seen’ which is the traditional table setting which includes seven symbolic items and await the exact moment of the arrival of spring. Festivals attract visitors and stimulate the growth of tourism and other businesses in a town or region. They attract tourists who spend money which boosts the local economy. Festivals provide free marketing and advertising for local businesses, since visitors talk about their experiences when they return to their countries.
