The line graph shows the number of incidents that took place in three areas of crime: car theft, house burglary and street robbery, in England and Wales from 1970 to 2005. Overall, all three types of crime rate increased, with car theft remaining the most common one over the period shown. Admittedly, the highest level of crime was seen in 1995. In 1970, the rate of the car theft remained at 0. 4 which was twice as high as the number of house burglary. Over the next decade, both of them increased in a similar pattern and reached 0. 8 and 0. 6 respectively. The level of car theft continued to increase and peaked at 1. 6 in 1995. However, very small number of street robbery was reported until 1990. By contrast, despite considerable decrease in the rate of car theft over the next ten years, it was still the most popular type of crime (1 mln )in 2005. Similarly, the figure for house burglary also decreased and made up the half of the number of car theft incidents at the end of the period. Meanwhile, the level of the street robbery increased to 0. 2 but it was still becoming the least common area of crime.
