The table illustrates how many employees and factories was in England and Wales over a period of 50 years. Overall, it is clear that the number of men and women who employed experiensed a downward trend, while the number of factories totaly increased over the entire period. With regard to the male and female employees figures, in 1851, the number of male employees stood at 287. 100, whereas that of female employees was lower at 190. 000. From 1851 to 1871, the figures for male and female employees fell dramatically to 80. 123 and 60. 000, respectively. From this year onwards, there was a steadly decraese to roughly 30. 000 in both men and women employees. Besides, the number of total employees saw a significant decline from 477. 100 to 61. 000 over the whole period. Turning to the factories table, between 1851 and 1861, the figure for factories rose minimally from 225 to 227. From this year to 1881, there was a substantial incresee in the number of factories of 494. From this year onwards, the number of factories experienced a gradual drop to 600.
