The graph gives information regarding the changes in global oil price per barrel price and food index points from 2000 to 2011.
Overall, the food prices were most expensive (240 points) in 2011 and lowest (approximately 90 points) around the middle of 2002 whereas the price for oil peaked at $120 in 2008 and its lowest point was $20 in 2002. Although both products started around the same level, by 2011 the food prices went up substantially in comparison to the oil prices.
The graph shows that price of both products fluctuated considerably but food prices were slightly more stable than the price of oil. However, these a major rise in the price from 2007 to the middle of 2008 after which the it dropped drastically and continued to fall until 2009 when oil was priced at $40 per barrel and food at 140 points. From that point both prices escalated in similar patterns but in 2011 another sharp rise in the price of food can be found in the graph.
