1. Local experiences are important as you may not know and understand trucking operations in an area far away from where you live.
When I handle the role as an entry-point of a trucking project in a whole country, I surely have to work with many local coordinators (my colleagues) from many regions. Maintaining a closed relationship with a local coordinator will be the best solution to help me to acknowledge more about the situation at the port, road conditions, market prices, and local practices in that area. It will be a valuable resource that I need to grab before entering into negotiations with subcontractors or solving a problem.
2. The assignment of roles in a mission must be cleared.
I think it is necessary to have a clear assignment of each member's role in a team which will handle a mission together. It is the same with playing in a football match, where there are many players on the field, and each player is responsible for its position. In a project, or in an organization, we will arrange each member to do some specific tasks. Then, their outputs will link and combine together as a chain and form a common result of the whole team. It is very important as it will make the whole system operate smoothly.
For example, I would like to describe the assignment in a simple transportation team. We will have many positions, including drivers, coordinators (dispatchers), accountant clerks, and etc.
- Drivers: be responsible for navigating the trucks on the road and delivering cargo to destinations as scheduled.
- Accountant clecks: be responsible for collecting data of costs, handling payments and reports, etc.
- Coordinators: follow the trucking orders from customers, schedule and dispatch shipment tasks accurately to drivers, and guide the drivers to solve problems on road, etc.
- Team leader: maintains overall management of the team's activities, etc.
