Dear Madam, I writing this letter to seek a reference for a job that I have applied recently. I have submitted my application for the post of part-time mathematics teacher ina local NGO. You will be glad to know that I am through with the final stages of the selection process and therefore, now require a letter of reference for my background verification in order to acquire the job. This job is crucial for me not only because I love mathematics but also as it will help me build my profile for my masters programme later in future. Since, you were my mentor in school in the Teaching Education Course that I studied under you in school, I think its best for you to put in some words for me in regard to this.
