Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Anwar Nasrudin, from Indonesia. Currently, I work as a research assistant at the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science, Universitas Padjadjaran in Bandung, Indonesia. I earned my bachelor degree from the Department of Biology, Universitas Padjadjaran, one of the best universities in Indonesia.
My interest in landscape ecology and ecosystem services modeling has increased since I was appointed to be a part of an international joint research program with Japan and the Philippines at my institution’s project. My team and I must be able to create future projection scenarios for ecosystem services on a bioproduction system, especially in West Java. I am analyzing habitat mapping using Geographical Information System (GIS) tools. However, this achievement has not been satisfactory for me as I feel that there are many other methods that can be applied more efficiently. Therefore, I want to further explore this field of ecosystem services modeling by returning to the university.
To this end, I found the MSc Landscape Ecology and Planning Program offered by the University of Tokyo very attractive. This program also offers very specific curricula such as Ecosystem Services Modeling and Scenario Analysis. I also really admire the work of one of the professors in the program who teaches ecosystem services and land use planning, namely Associate Professor Dr. Shizuka Hashimoto. This program also offers internships and these topics in several leading Japanese research institutes such as Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, which will certainly enrich my practical experience related to ecosystem services modeling.
Studying in Japan will also help to fulfil my personal career ambitions as I wish to work internationally to improve my language capabilities, and my career prospects as a domestic researcher will continue to be strongly influenced by world researchers. I wish to study the course in Japan because Japanese educational degrees have a good reputation worldwide.
I hope that I can gain both the skills and theory needed to become an expert or consultant in the field of landscape ecology and ecosystem modeling after I graduate from this program and be able to contribute more to solving environmental and natural resources problems, especially environmental management in the agricultural and forestry sectors in Indonesia.
With my experience in the environmental field and a strong educational background, I believe I can give my best in this program. I am very grateful for considering my application, and I appreciate the time you take to review my application. I look forward to a favourable reply.
Sincerely Yours,
Anwar Nasrudin
