This letter is to reveal my strong interest and motivation to attend the programme of the European Master in Building Information Modelling.
I am a final year student in the Civil Engineering Department at Andalas University and will graduate on February 2021. To date, I have been trusted by the Civil Engineering Department to become a lecturer assistant after going through a reasonably strict selection under the Institution of the Building Technology and Modelling Laboratory. I was trained to learn more in civil science than my peers, especially in the field of modelling. I was also allowed to teach new students about the basic of engineering drawings and software incivil engineering. The subjects that I teach are technical drawings and Autocad software that relate to one of the courses in my major. Outside courses, my team and I also conducted software training leading to BIM for the public. Software that I have successfully taught to the general public is Sketchup and Lumion. In my campus, skills in using civil engineering software especially modelling are still scarce, and I even had the opportunity to teach and become a tutor for civil engineering master program students in the use of modelling software.
As time went on, my lecturer introduced BIM to the teaching assistant team and me. My teacher asked me to study the Tekla Structure and Revit. It is the programme which I got interested in BIM, and I started to find out more related to this programme. Once in two months, I was required to study and create assignments using BIM software, then the results would be presented and taught again with the assistant team. To hone my knowledge and soft skills more about BIM, I started attending training and seminars on BIM both online and offline. Currently, I have a BIM certification, namely the Allplan software held by PT WIKA. Apart from the BIM Certification, I have also been certified in the building experts, K3/ Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and Construction Management. Moreover, I also participated in the CAD competition and occupied the 6th position at the Provincial level.
From my description, I hope to get the opportunity to continue my masters in BIM programme. My country and especially my campus, are still lack of experts in this field because the BIM is still relatively new in Indonesia my campus environment, while other countries have gone a long way to using BIM. Coupled with a plan from my department to add one compulsory subject, namely BIM. Besides that, studying in Europe was my dream from a young age, coupled with the existence of a BIM major which is my favourite science.
After I graduate, I plan to become a lecturer who will teach knowledge about BIM to Indonesian students who are still unfamiliar with BIM technology. It does not rule out the possibility to teach at my campus, considering there are plans to add BIM courses to my department and my lecturer in modelling will retire in 2023. Apart from that, I also want to channel my knowledge in the field of government and will apply BIM on the project. I like to teach, let alone teach the science that interests me the most. My main goal and dream are to introduce, teach, and apply BIM technology in my country, Indonesia, which is still unfamiliar with BIM.
Thank you for your consideration of my application, and I look forward to your acceptance.
Sincerely,
Nurul Adha
