I am writing in response to the Registered Nurse job posting in the United States Consulate General, Lagos. I was excited to see this opportunity as I have a strong commitment to working with diverse patients. I am a graduate of Nursing Science from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, in Oyo State, a Registered Nurse/ Midwife from the School of Nursing, Agbor, Delta State and the School of Midwifery, Asaba, Delta State all in Nigeria. I have over ten year’s progressive work experience both in hospitals and clinic settings. I believe my combination of interpersonal, critical thinking, teamwork, health education counselling and communication skills would make me a successful addition to your team. I have sharpened my critical-thinking, interpersonal, teamwork and health education counselling skills through various clinical experiences. For example, while working as part of an interdisciplinary team at both SHELL health (as a Locum staff) and the University of Lagos Medical centre, I address a wide range of clinical issues facing patients of all ages. My clinical experience and training enable me to effectively implement safe immunization programs, manage conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, vaso-occlusive crisis, chronic pain, sexual health counselling to name a few. I work closely with Physicians on treatment plans and make referrals for patients who need ongoing specialized or emergency care including medical evacuations, hospitalization and insurance reimbursement. At the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Initiative (Spillover A&E), which is a fast-paced emergency department, I help in triaging patients, conducting patient interviews, physical examinations and proposing diagnoses. I do inventory and maintenance of all medical equipment and supplies. I was consistently recognized by my supervisor for my efficiency, collaboration and ability to create trust with patients and their families. I feel immense satisfaction in helping patients/clients obtain peace of mind by providing preventative holistic/client-oriented healthcare that includes them in the decision-making as regards their health. These experiences have taught me how to address patients and their families professionally and respectfully, discuss their concerns and manage their frustrations. What I cherish most about my role as a nurse is working in collaboration with other health professionals, patients, caregivers and their families to address complex health issues with both clinical and educational tools. My professional goals include working in a clinic setting, helping the missions employees and their family members to realize better health outcomes.
