Dear Lilo, It`s very exciting to hear that you`re moving to Almaty. You`d fall in love with Almaty, it`s not quite modern, mostly there are old not attractive buildings. Don`t panic the most interesting part of the city isn`t architecture. Almaty is located in Ile-Alatau mountains area, so nature is really beautiful. You can ski during the winter, there is a lot of ski resorts. The best ice skating is in Medeo skating rink which is the highest altitude sports complex with outdoor speed skating. Also you can walk and hike in the mountains independed from season. At the summer season there is water entertaiments. Close to city there is a big lake that calls Kapshagay and many rivers, so you can fishing or swimming. Altought it`s a good place for rock climbing and rafting and more and more attractives. So you`ll spend a good time here Public transport is very developed, we have bus lanes, tube, trolleybus and a very developed bycycle tracks. Finally there is cheap taxi and more that 3 carsharing companies. The public transport works from 6 am till 23 pm everyday. The people are very friendly and open so you gonna find a many friends. A lot of public events like sport activities and traditional games are going at the weekends. I can`t wait to see you! best wishes,
