The two pictures illustrate a number of important changes which took place in the tiny city of Freston after the construction of commercial buildings over the period from 1990 to 2012.
It is clear that the most noteworthy innovation was a shift toward a partly residential area which became a modernized place with the presence of various complex apartments and recreational facilities, but fewer trees and open spaces.
In 1990, on the left-hand side of the high street, the playing fields with trees in the south were chopped down to make way for high-rise buildings. Moreover, in the Northwest, the remaining unchanged was demonstrated in the school area, while the bank below the school was demolished for the construction of a restaurant for entertaining purposes. In place of library and hospital still existed in the original sites until 2012. The hospital, however, became bigger to cater to numerous patients. Besides that, in the South, the open files with plenty of trees were erected to and replaced by technopark.
Looking at the right-hand side of the high street, while the housing estate in West transformed into the complex apartment which accommodated more residents, the flats were knocked down and became vacant land. Similarly, the cafe and park in the center were removed, and instead, the addition of a hotel and golf course for recreation. Finally, both the theatre and supermarket are located in the South being converted into cinema and supermarket.
