The role where, as an engineer, I could explore my space in management and could better understand a technical perspective to work as a team to achieve a North star is always my admiration. This mere admiration took a form first, when I started working as an intern and then developed into a solid inspiration after working with a corporate like Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) in a role like Data Engineer for a year and half. The determination to pursue a degree which could help me accomplish my dream role came from one of my projects at work. I had been delegated the role of a Developer and BAU support person in my initial project, where the team had only a minimum resource to support the application and I had a crucial role to play. With time and exposure, I am keen to stay connected to the technological aspects and at the same time to culminate my ability to manage a team. The Engineering Management program is a platform where I could learn to better myself tomorrow than what I’m today.
For undergraduation, I enrolled in the Electronics and communication Engineering(ECE) course at Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham where I was equally inclined towards core electronics as well as computer science courses. I attended a couple of inplant training at BHEL, BEL and Internet of Things(IOT) workshop at IIT Madras Research Park during my 5th and 6th semester. Apart from my academics, I have completed some projects to enhance my practical skills. My first project was completed in 6 weeks of time to emulate a dynamic water level indicator. In this project, which was done during my 6th semester, I led a team of 3 students where each one of us contributed equally. The second project was done during my 7th semester, where I automated the ABC (Accelerator, Clutch, Break) controls in a vehicle. I had an opportunity to present and publish my project at the “First International Conference on Advances In Physical Sciences and Materials” (ICAPSM). With both my projects at college, I had learnt the sense of time management, teamwork and problem solving ability.
I had a penchant for computers and information technology which drove me in choosing a career in that field. I was the only student in my entire campus to be selected for the position of Data Engineer at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) which is a multinational and a Fortune 500 company. I chose to work as an intern at JLL in the data engineering team, during my last semester to acquire working knowledge. During my intern days, I developed a Project Management tool using SQL, SSIS and Power BI. This indeed gave me a good level of confidence which galvanized me to achieve my Microsoft certifications in SQL, Power BI and Microsoft Azure. I started my full time project in my late internship days where I supported the existing UK real estate application.
My initial project “Lucidity” analysed the data from multiple Property Management Systems and provided a holistic business solution to UK clients. My role was to map all the raw data from the systems with the respective targets after cleansing them. With working on support tickets, I managed to master the cumbersome mappings efficiently followed by feature developments and bug fixes. During my tenure, I had developed multiple dashboards to facilitate the process and my clients are still using my robustic dashboards. I had the opportunity to display my leadership qualities by mentoring new recruits. In the months of February and March 2021, I worked on both my projects. In addition to my role in my
project, I had also taken the responsibility of pre and post production deployment activities which focused on monitoring the stability of the server.
Upon my performance in that project, I was promoted to a critical project, which focused on extensive, advanced on-market tech stack with Microsoft cloud tools like Microsoft Azure and Databricks. I have contributed to the development of global applications in my current project. My applications, namely, “Conflict Check” and “Radius” which indicate conflicts amongst various facilities management companies. It's been almost 5 months down the line now, where I’m experimenting with multiple things. This project was much challenging technically, as it was demanding a high technical expertise. Being the youngest in the team with comparatively lesser exposure, I still worked hard to match up to other tenured developers. I had a chance to develop a major chunk upon seeing my evolution from a neophyte to an adept developer.
Apart from my mainstream goals, I had always been willing to display uniqueness and leadership activities right from my high school. I have actively taken part in many inter school competitions and have won accolades. I represented my school at the Times of India workshop for school students. I was also delegated the role as President of the Rotary club during my 11th grade. In my tenure as the President of the Rotary Club, I had been an ardent proponent of the “Save Water” theme. I have also contributed in supporting afforestation by creating awareness among my schoolmates. I had equally taken part in sports like Throwball and Kho-Kho at intra school and intra college events. During my college days, I had to train a group of 35 students to perform in a Musical event. I was the co-head of the Transportation department in my college’s Technical Festival, which is one among the top events in India. In this role, I effectively managed the logistics for transportation services.
I had always had a penchant for management but my equal passion towards technology has created an inclination in me towards Engineering management. It's a privilege to aim for such a reputed institute which has excellent learning initiatives and resources. Located in a great community, this university would play an essential role for my eminence. Your friendly policies would facilitate me in creating an equilibrium between my professional and personal skills. The course and the course outcomes at your university had clearly coincided with my ideal requirement, and at Purdue to gain new experiences. I would like to gain some expertise in Product Management, Supply Chain and Risk Analysis as well along with equal technical emphasis on Data Analytics. Being a data engineer myself, I feel when given the right exposure and experience, I can understand the concerns of a developer from his shoes where I will think as a developer and at the same time with my managerial skills help deduce a problem with my pragmatic solutions. Having been a key factor to the culmination of great people like Ms. Lila Ibraham who went on to become a COO of DeepMind and given a platform to master techniques similar to that of Sir Neil Armstrong. At Purdue, I strongly believe that I will get exposed to a plethora of opportunities where I can garner the skills which constitute the stint of an engineering manager where I can learn the right management techniques and approaches and master in my technical space to become someone to look up to in future. With the Co-op experiences, I will have some practical training, where I can emulate all my learning. I look upto myself in either a position up the scale in a reputed corporation or as an entrepreneur trying to set up my own company.
