The table below compares the amount of natural gas produced and consumed in some countries in 2001.
It is clear cut that the USA was by far the biggest producer and consumer of natural gas while New Zealand had the lowest amount of gas consumption. In terms of the amount of gas extracted, Japan and South Korea had no gas production.
The highest amount of gas extraction and usage were recorded by the USA with nearly 600 and 500 millions of tons respectively. The second stage belonged to the UK with about 90 millions of consuming and 100 millions of producing. The figure of consumption for the UAE and china was almost the same with 28 and 25 millions of tons respectively. At the same time, the UAE used 5 millions of tones natural gas more than china.
The former Soviet Union’s consumption of natural gas was just over 7 millions of tones. On the other hand, this country produced the negligible amount of 0. 4 millions of tones natural gas. The same trend could be seen for japan. Although it was the third most consumer of natural gas, japan, like South Korea produced no natural gas.
