It is often argued that being a university graduate is the key to securing a better job, whereas others think that it is essential to have useful skills and experience. In my opinion, higher education is required for academic jobs and experience with soft skills is more useful in business.
On the one hand, people think that it is easier to find a good job if they are a university graduate with a good grade degree. In other words, many renowned organizations seek candidates with professional degrees therefore they have more chance to get employed than people with no degree. Also, people with higher qualification are one step ahead in getting a promotion as compared to the ones without such education. Moreover, university degree holders have more work opportunities as compared to people without tertiary education. For instance, Chandigarh University organized a placement event every year where thousands of graduates get employed.
On the other hand, there are some areas like automobile services where theoretical knowledge is not enough to secure a place in the market. Similarly, a person with years of experience in a particular field and soft skills such as interpersonal and leadership skills brings immediate profit to the company. For certain positions, numbers of aspirant competing with each other therefore one who has relevant experience in that line of work with useful skills shortlisted.
Finally, in my opinion, whether needing higher education or skills depends upon the job being applied for. To cite an example, professions like doctors, teachers, lawyers demand relevant educational backgrounds. In contrast, in business, it would be more important for the candidate to have soft skills and experience in that line of business so that they could step into a position without special training.
In conclusion, getting a particular job requires a relevant background in both experience and education. People should make sure that they attain the necessary degree and experience before applying for a job to be sure of success.
