Now-a-days, it is a very common norm for people, especially young adults, to move abroad for either work or education purposes. The opportunity to live in a foreign country seems very attractive to many. However, this has its benefits as well as drawbacks. I will be going over the pros and cons of going to another country in this essay. Starting with the advantages, moving abroad can broaden your horizon. This means that it can give you a chance to meet people of different cultures as well as gain knowledge about new traditions and foods. This can help you stay well-informed and be open-minded. Another plus point is that it provides you with a better quality of life. For instance, people living in Europe or in a generally cold region might want to move to South Africa for its warm climate. People can also gain qualifications along with language skills which may improve promotion prospects in terms of jobs. Moving on to the disadvantages, settling in a different country may cause a culture shock. It can be difficult for many to cope with the language barrier or to adapt to the new environment. This can also result in feeling homesick or a sense of isolationism. Another major drawback is that it is not easy to start a new life from scratch. For example, there is a need to make new friends and to try and fit into the society or community. Some might find this task hard and it can lead to feeling alienated, especially if they have to deal with the issue of a language barrier. In conclusion, starting a life in an unfamiliar country is never easy. You would need to consider the positives of having a better lifestyle and getting the opportunity to engage with various cultures, and the negatives of culture shock and language barrier. Personally, I believe that the pros in terms of character development and growth would eventually outweigh any drawbacks.
