The bar graph shows automobiles were owned per million of people in China during the period 1987 to 1999.
There is clearly a trend that over the years became much more common to own a vehicle in China. Between 1987 and 1991 we can observe a slightly increased vehicle ownership. From 500 cars per million people in 1987 to about 800 hundred per million people in 1991. By contrast, from 1991 to 1999 there was a dramatic increase in vehicle ownership. Although the increase was gradual at first, it was in 1999 that it took off with just over 4 thousand vehicles per million people, eight fold more than in 1907.
Overall, it can be seen that the popular trend to own a private vehicle became a great deal more popular in China over those years. It started to increase exponentially during the last 2 decades of the 20th century.
