It is clear that, for the two decades the US released more waste than any countries, while Korea was the only region that cut down on rubbish production. However, there was an upward trend in other areas.
Between 1980 and 2000 production of waste in the US rose considerably from 131 million tons to 192 million tons while the index for Korea declined significantly with the figure falling from 31 million tons in 1990 to 19 million tons in 2000.
Moreover, in 2000 the proportion of garbage released in Portugal accounted for only 2 million tons a figure, which, then witnessed an almost twofold growth. Similarly, there was a slight rise to only 6. 6 million tons in Poland at the end of the period. On the other hand, the index for both Ireland and Portugal went up to 5 million tons in 2000 from 0. 6 million tons and 2 million tons accordingly in the beginning
