The tables compare the amount of money spent on Fairtrade-labelled on coffee and bananas in the two years 1999 and 2004 in five separate European countries.
Overall, the UK held the leading positions in sales of coffee and bananas among 5 countries between 1999 and 2004. Besides, while three countries (the UK, Switzerland and Demark) witnessed a rise in sales of bananas, there was a decrease in these figures of the two remaining countries in 1999 and 2004.
In 1999, while Switzeland had the highest sales of coffee, at 3 million, revenue’s the UK from sales of Fairtrade bananas ranked top, at 15 million. However, in 2004, the sales of coffee in the UK reached to 20 millions of euros which was over three times higher than that of Switzerland. In terms of sales of bananas, the UK grew by 32 millions of euros, while there was a trivial increase in this figure in Switzerland.
Sales of the rest of the five countries (Denmark, Belgum and Sweden) experienced small changes in two years given and were far lower in comparison with figures of the UK and Switzerland. Looking at coffee spending, all three European countries rose slightly to 2 million, 1. 7 million and 1 million respectively in 1999. The year 2004 saw a growth of 3. 4 million in sales of bananas in Denmark, whereas those of Belgium and Sweden dropped to 1 million and 0. 9 million in the order given.
