The table above illustrates the estimated literacy rates in percentage by region(Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Ocenia) and gender for 2000-2004. In general, Male is always higher than female with a small decrease, furthermore, Europe is the most higher region in comparison with Africa which is the most lower region in each gender.
Firstly, Europe has the highest percentage in literacy rates in total (98. 8%). Followed by Americas which has the second highest percentage in total (93. 6%), then the moderated region is Asia (79. 3%). The lowest percentage in total is shown in Africa (62. 5%).
According to the male gender percentages, it is clear that Europe also is the highest in literacy rates (99. 2%). Furthermore, Americas (94. 1%) and Ocenia(94. 2%) have a marginal difference. Moreover, the lowest region in male gender is in Africa(71. 6%), while Asia is the moderate one (85. 9%).
As shown in Female gender, Europe is the highest (98. 5%), then Americas followed it with 93. 2%. In comparison with Africa which has only 53. 9%.
