Looking at the table, it is immediately obvious that food, drinks and tobacco registered the highest figures, whereas the least amount of money spent on leisure and education in all 5 countries.
In terms of food, drinks and tobacco, Turkey had the highest proportion, at 32. 14%, followed by Ireland at 28. 91%, compared to the lowest in Sweden, at only 15. 77%. Italy and Spain spent the fairly equal percentages, 16. 36% and 18. 80% respectively. On the other hand, the lowest proportion of expenditure was on leisure and education which accounted for under 5% in all countries. Turkey again spent most on leisure and education, at 4. 35%, while Spain’s figure was the lowest at 1. 98%.
Clothing and footwear was the third category of consumer goods and outlays for these items were between 9. 00% in Italy and 5. 4% in Sweden. The remaining countries had the average figure around 6. 5%.
