It is clear that over the five-year period, the UK is still ranked the highest with the most significant increase in volume in both values. However, on an overall scale, rises are seen over the years, except for Belgium and Sweden’s labelled bananas.
In 1999, Fairtrade-labelled coffee sales in Switzerland ranked the highest at 3 million Euro, followed by Denmark in 1. 8, and the UK stood third at only 1. 5. The next five-year saw a sudden jump in coffee sale of in the UK, which put this country right on top. Contemporarily, the Fairtrade-labelled coffee sale in Switzerland and Belgium almost doubled while the other 2 countries remained quite stable.
As for the sales of banana with Fairtrade labels, the UK stood at the top with 15 million Euro, seconded by Sweden and Belgium at 2 and 1. 8 million respectively. Over the next five years, the UK continued to secure its top position with a rise up to 47 million Euro. Switzerland and Denmark also experienced sharp increases to 5. 5 and 4 million Euro from just 1 and 0. 6 respectively. Belgium and Sweden, however, showed signs of the drop to 1 and 0. 9 million Euro respectively.
