The diagram illustrates the steps of silk manufacturing. Overall, the silk is made in 6 stages. Firstly, bombyx mori lays up to 400 eggs on mulberry leaves which will be hatched after 1-3 weeks (7-20 days). After being hatched, in about 1 month (25-28 days) silkworms are grown to 3 inches by consuming a huge amount of mulberry leaves which is 70 times bigger than their initial measures. Following the growth step, they spin a cocoon around themselves. Then, these cocoons are exposed to thermal processing. At the same time as cocoons are boiled, the silk gum that held the structure of covering together softens, making the process of unwinding individual filaments easier. Afterward, single fibers of silk are spun together to form very fine and strong threads. Finally, having been spun, threads are woven into silk fabric. When all stages of production are finished and the silk fabric is ready, the process of silk manufacturing is done.
