The pie graphs compare the number of Oscar winners in terms of seven distinct film genres in two years 2003 and 2008.
It is noticeable that the winners of thriller films made up the highest proportion while the figure for those of comedy films had an opposite trend.
In 2003, the number of winners of thriller films accounted for the highest proportion, at nearly a half of the total film genres. The figures for action and horror films were lower, at approximately 13, 8% and 15, 2% respectively. Meanwhile, other film genres made up a small percentage of the total and the lowest figure was seen in the number of winners of comedy films, at about 5%.
In the next three years, the proportion of actors in thriller films awarded the Oscar decreased marginally but remained the highest figure in the chart. By contrast, the figure for action films increased significantly by around 15%, while that for horror films experienced a moderate fall of 3%. There were slight increases to 25%; 11, 6%; 8, 3% and 8, 8% in the figures for action, science fiction, romance and documentary films respectively. Additionally, the figure for comedy films stayed unchanged in both two years.
