The line graph given illustrates data regarding the proportion of the population in 4 different age groups in New Zealand from 1950 to 2050.
Looking at the chart it is immediately clear that the rate of people aged 25-37s and 65+ year-olds will see a decline, whereas these figures in people at the age 0-14s and 38-45s are predicted to increase. Another key feature is that the highest figures will be recorded for the population 65 and above years old.
In 1950, the population in the age group 25-37s made up exactly 20%. This figure rose to 25% before being forecast to see a decrease of about 25% by 2050. A similar upward trend will be witnessed in the 65+ population in New Zealand. Starting 60% in 1950, an increase of 10% was experienced in this percentage prior to it being predicted to drop and will stand at about 55%.
An opposite tendency will be witnessed in people aged o-14s and 38-45s year-olds. In the first year studied, the population belonging to the age group 0-14s will account for around 5%. In the next 40 years, this figure seemed to remain unchanged before being estimated to go up 20% in 2050. Beside, the population in the age bracket 38-45s in New Zealand stood at 25% by 1950 and it then saw an increase to 49% by 1990. But after 1990, the rate of people at the age 38-45s in New Zealand will decline significantly by about10% until 2050.
