The line graph compares the number of car theft, house burglary and arson, which were three crimes committed in England and Wales, over a period of 35 years. Overall, while stealing of cars increased, house burglary fluctuated over the period given. Also, the number of arson committed remained stable. In 1975, there were amount 0. 4 million car thefts reported. This figure was twice that of house burglary. This number increased steadily over the next ten years to around 0. 5 million. The number of car theft then rose dramatically to reach a peak of 1. 6 million in 2000( almost a four times increase). It however declined till the end of the period to just under 1. 2. By contrast, the number of house burglary and arson were the lowest. The number of house burglary hovered between 0. 2 and 0. 3 over the period. In addition, arson was just under 0. 1 million in 1970 and remained relatively stable at this value till 2005.
