The line chart illustrates the percentage of unemployed Irish inhabitants and the number of citizens leaving the country in a period of time from 1988 to 2008.
Overall, there was a significant decline in the percentage of unemployment rate in Ireland, and the number of people leaving the country also decreased over an examined period.
Due to the Irish’ unemployment rate, after a small decrease from 17% in 1988 to 13% in 1990, it went through a slight recovery to approximate 16% over the next two years. After the recovery, it started to fall down to 6% in 2000, following by a six-year period of stability. However, this rate increased to about 6% in the final year of the research.
Starting with approximately 60, 000 citizens in 1988, it fell to 55, 000 in 1990. There was a huge decline to nearly 35, 000 in the next two years. After that, it experienced a slight increase to about 37, 000 in 1994. However, it continued to have a decline to 23, 000 in 2000. The number of people leaving the country started to go up at 2002, from 25, 000 at that year to about 50, 000 at the final year of the research.
