In the two graphs shown, we can see the comparison between commencing students and total students in Australian universities. Graphs shows total overseas students were merely around 20 thousand at the start of the decade in 2001, which rose by 400 percent to approximately 80 thousand by the end of the decade in 2010. We can see consistent and gradual increase in total overseas students between years 2001 and 2010. Furthermore, the number of overseas students commencing in the universities shows a slow increase between the first half of the decade. On the contrary, number of overseas students commencing shows a sharp rise between years 2006 and 2009. In case of local students in Australian universities, we can see a consistant and fast growth in total number of students between years 2001 and 2007. But the total number of local students seems to have reached the upper limit of 600 thousand. Moreover, number of local students commencing in the universities seems to meddle around 200 thousand. This number can be seen to reach a high in 2002, but it plummets back to 200 thousand, decreasing till year 2006, until we can see an upwards trend again.
