The line graph compares the unemployment rates between the US and Japan from March 1993 to March 1999. Overall, in the beginning, the US stood at the first place in terms of the number of people who were unemployed; however, the gap between two countries was bridged by experiencing Japan a mild increase and The US a marked decrease in their unemployment rates. In the first years, almost 7% of American work force was unemployed. This figure for Japan was only 2. 5%. After that, Japan saw a steady rise in their unemployment rates although it experienced a blip between March 96 and March 97. It continued its upward trend reaching a peak value of 5. 0% in March 98. This country's unemployment rate remained roughly the same towards the end of the given period. Turning to the US, this country followed almost the reverse trend in comparison with Japan. In the first years, there were considerable downward fluctuations, dropping from 7% in March 93 to 5% between March 96 and March 97, after which it remained almost the same with minor fluctuations.
