Overall, road was the most used method of transportation in the uk, whereas the one that carried the least tonnages was pipeline. In addition, the three ways, road, water and pipeline experienced increases of good while rail, even if it had some slight variation at the end of the period reached the same amount of year 1974.
First of all, The first result worth pointing out is the rise of about 30 million tonnes over the period. This type of transportation had a significant upward trend from 1995 to 1998, and then it continued with a gradual increase. On the other hand, pipeline, beginning with less than 10 million goods, gradually grew, until it reached 22million tonnes, as from that quantities remained stable to the end of the period.
Moreover, regarding rail, the trend experienced from 1978 a negative trend with some fluctuations, reaching two peak, the first one in 1984 and the other one in 1995 with both the amount of 30million tonnes, approximately. On the other hand, water transportation followed a positive trend, carrying about 40 million of goods in 1974 to 65 million in 2002.
