The above graph illustrates the range of polulation aged 65 and above in three different countries, between the years 1940 and 2040.
In 1940, USA was top of the three countries with population aged 65 and over at 9. 5 percent. Followed by Sweden, which was at 6 percent and lastly Japan at 5 percent approx. While USA and Sweden’s population of senior citizens have increased gradually, the trend for Japan shows a downfall, continued by a linearity and constant growth thereafter. However Japan’s 65 and above population is expected to grow rapidly between 2020 and 2040.
It is clearly noticible that the percentage of population aged 65 and over, have increased significantly. While the 65 and plus population of USA was the highest among the three in 1940, it is predicted to be the lowest by the year 2040, at about 23 percent. However Sweden remains on the second position in the list with 25 percent and Japan will be the top country with highest population of 65 and above citizens at 27 percent.
