The graph illustrates the quantity of goods transported in the UK during the period between 1974 to 2002. From an overall perspective, the road transport has the highest capacity of goods transferred and the pipeline was not widely used for movement of goods.
On the one hand, the roadways and waterways paved way for shipping more amount of goods compared to other means. The roadways contributed nearly 70 million toness at the start of the time frame and it has rocketed to 100 million tonnes in the end. Then, the ships which are capable of transporting nearly 40 million tonnes has inclined to 60 million tonnes in the year 1982. In contrast the railways which has faced a plummet in the same year, and losed 10 million tonnes.
On the otherhand, the pipeline has a consistent growth without any fluctuations it has started from 5 million tonnes and has gradually increased to 20 million tonnes in the year 2002.
In sum, there are variations in the ways of transport other than the pipeline which has consistent growth with no falls whereas roadways has the highest number of fluctuations.
