The 2008 graph underneath shows information about energy consumption in the USA. It presents data since 1980 and gives projections until 2030.
The most used sources of energy then, now in the future are petrol, oil and coal. They all had the biggest growth and will continue to have it in the future. Natural gas has also increased over the years, but from 2015 the use of it has stayed and will stay on the same level. Nuclear, solar, wind and hydropower were the least used in the 80s and up until 2030 they will continue to have some fluctuations.
The use of petrol and oil has mostly increased in the years 1995-2000. Then the pattern of growth has stayed and will stay the same. The biggest increase for coal was earlier, in the years 1990-1995. Natural gas from 1980 has increased but also decreased. However, from 2015 the use of it has stayed on the same level - around 25 quadrillion units - and will continue to stay on it until 2030. The remaining 4 sources of energy: nuclear, solar, wind and hydropower all had their growth. Nuclear power is the one with the most stable growth. Solar and wind, apart from the downturn in 1995, has a really stable increase too. The use of hydropower has decreased in 2010 and will follow that pattern until 2030.
The use of all types of energy has increased since 1980 and will continue until 2030. The most used sources in 1980 - petrol, oil and coal, are still in their place, far ahead of nuclear, solar or wind power.
