The given pie charts compare the proportion of Oscar victors by film type between 2003 and 2008. Overall, it is clear that there were significant changes in the figure of Oscar winners by all seven film genres shown on the graph. Thriller and action were the most popular genres among Oscar champions and make up a clear majority over a period of five years. Looking at the year 2003 first, thriller films accounted for about 45% of Oscar winners and there is a downward trend, only one-third in 2008. By contrast, the year 2008 witnessed a slight increase of approximately 5% in the number of Oscar champions by action movies. The least popular genres are science fiction and comedy. Over the following 5 years, the percentage of Oscar victors by comedy film remained relatively unchanged at about 5%. It is noticeable that science fiction rose two-fold from 6% in 2003 to 12% in 2008.
