The diagram below illustrates the recycling process of aluminium cans in the United Kingdom. It involves seven steps before aluminum cans are able to be reused. First of all, used cans must be thrown away separately from other garbage and must be stored in a bin for aluminum cans only. Following that, all the used cans would be collected into a garbage truck before it undergoes the next processes. The third process involves cleaning, sorting, shredding, and compressing the used cans in an electronic machine. After that, the compressed aluminium cans then would be heated up and melted in high temperature to allow the aluminium cans to melt. The next step is making the aluminium roll from melted cans which is 2. 5 - 6 mm thick from the melted cans. Then, the aluminium roll would be recycled and formed into the new aluminium can. The last step is reusing the recycled aluminium cans for industry. The number of recycled aluminium cans used in the United Kingdom make up to 74%.
