Overall, it is clear that walking was by far the most popular
physical activity in all surveyed years, while golf was the least
popular activity. Additionally, the percentage of people who
enjoyed activity such as walking, swimming and rugby increased,
whereas the figure for the other sport showed a decrease in popularity among the people.
Walking, the most popular activity by far, rose gradually from just above 40% in 1995 to approximately 44% in 2005. However, golf, the least popular activity, accounted for around 18% in 1995 to just above 15% in 2005, after a slight decrease in 2000.
Regrading the other activity, tennis and snooker showed a downward trend. There was just under 30% of people chose rugby as a sports activity and levelled off at around 22% for 2000 and 2005. Similarly, snooker was gain interest in 30% of residents in the UK decreased to approximately 23% in 2005. In contrast, rugby and swimming were enjoyed more just under 25% of people in 1995 to about 26% each in 2005
