The graph compares the proportion of different age groups in the population of Iceland and their growth over 4 decades from 1990 to 2020.
Overall, there are 5 age groups. Out of all the age group of adults remains maximum in all the years and grows slowly until 2010 after which a sharp rise can be seen in their population. Whereas the age group of teenagers (15-24) and that of children(0-14) declines rapidly over the years. The same trend is seen for those in the group 55-64 but rather at a very slow pace. Also, the population of elder people (65 and over) stays static with very few fluctuations.
The adult population grows from nearly a quarter to just a little less than 50% of the complete population whereas the teenage group declines from over one fifth to less than a tenth of the same. Bar height remains approximately constant for the elder group which is just above 10%, while there is a small fall for the population group between 55-64. By the end of 2020, the proportion of teenagers has dropped to below 10%.
